This privacy policy describes how Mehrab Quran (محراب القرآن), the mobile application and website published by Ahmed Hany Abdelhamid Mohamed, collects, uses, and protects your personal information. It applies to both the mobile app and the website at mehrab-alquran.com.
Information We Collect
We collect: (a) account information you provide — your name, email, phone number, gender, profile photo, nationality, country of residence, language and learning path, plus (for teachers) bio, experience, specialization, school, tracks, and an authorisation (Igazah) PDF; (b) authentication identifiers from third-party sign-in and phone-verification providers when you sign in or verify your phone through them; (c) device data — device model, operating-system version, app version, a hardware identifier, and push-notification tokens issued by third-party push services; (d) network data — your IP address and an approximate city/country derived from it, used for security and to flag new-device sign-ins; (e) usage data — daily active-day records, feature interactions, call history, and call ratings; (f) audio (and video, if you enable it) during calls, plus recordings of all participants' audio (see Section 6); (g) crash and diagnostic logs when the app encounters an error. If you use the prayer-times feature, the app reads your device's GPS location locally to compute prayer times — this location stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to operate the Service: matching students with teachers, scheduling and conducting sessions, sending notifications about your sessions, verifying your phone number, screening profile photos through automated NSFW moderation, preventing fraud and abuse, supporting you when you contact us, and improving reliability through aggregated usage analytics. We do not use your information for advertising and we do not sell your personal information. Separately, as described in Section 6, your voice recordings may be retained and used to develop and train AI technologies and shared with research partners to build charitable (waqf) and commercial applications.
Microphone, Camera, Audio, and Video
The Service uses your device's microphone to enable real-time audio communication during lessons, and your camera if you choose to enable video on a session. When you join a session, your audio (and video, if enabled) is streamed in real time via a third-party real-time-communication provider and is not retained on our servers beyond the active session — except for the recordings described in Section 6. We do not access your microphone or camera outside an active session you have joined.
Information Sharing and Third-Party Processors
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with third-party service providers who help us operate the Service — including providers for push notifications; real-time audio and video and server-side session recording; cloud storage of profile images and recordings; bot protection on email flows; crash and error reporting; transactional email; sign-in and authentication; phone-number verification; and AI processing of recordings (described in Section 6). On the website (mehrab-alquran.com) we additionally use a third-party analytics provider when enabled, and an embedded third-party video player in privacy-enhanced no-cookie mode. Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy and may process data outside your country. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
Data Security and Retention
We protect your data using TLS in transit and encryption at rest on our managed database and with our third-party cloud storage provider, plus access controls and audit logging. We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Diagnostic and crash logs are retained for up to 90 days. Phone-verification records are retained for up to 12 months. Security-event logs (including the IP address used at sign-in and on suspicious events) are retained for up to 12 months. Daily activity records that show you used the app on a given day are retained while your account is active. After account deletion (see Section 7) we permanently remove personal data within 30 days, except where law requires longer retention (financial and fraud-prevention records up to 7 years).
Session Recordings, AI Processing and AI Development
Every session is automatically recorded, including the audio of all participants (both your voice and your teacher's), and the recording is stored with a third-party cloud storage provider. Recording is part of using the Service and is not optional. We use the recording to generate a transcript and AI-assisted educational feedback via third-party AI providers that helps you review your lesson. The session recording kept for your review is automatically deleted 7 days after the session date, and the transcript may be retained as part of your lesson history for longer. Your voice recordings may also be retained and used long-term — beyond the 7-day lesson-review window — to help develop and train artificial-intelligence technologies (such as Quran recitation recognition), and may be shared with research centers and institutions to develop charitable (waqf) and commercial applications that serve the community. To protect your privacy, we recommend keeping your participation educational and Quran-focused and avoiding any personal details. By continuing to use the app, you consent to this recording and use.
Account Deletion
You can delete your account and all associated personal data at any time through the app: open Home → Contact Us → Delete Account, then confirm by typing the displayed keyword. You can also email privacy@mehrab-alquran.com from the address registered to your account; we respond within 30 days. Upon deletion we permanently remove your profile, learning history, ratings, favorites, notifications, sessions, and authentication tokens, and revoke our third-party sign-in link if applicable. Any remaining call recordings are removed at the next 7-day cleanup cycle, so they may persist with our cloud storage provider for up to 7 days after account deletion. Aggregated, anonymized analytics that no longer identify you may be retained. We may retain limited records required by law (for example, financial transactions and fraud-prevention) for up to 7 years.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, update, or delete your personal information at any time through the app or by contacting privacy@mehrab-alquran.com. Depending on your jurisdiction (for example, GDPR in the EU/UK or CCPA in California) you may also have the right to data portability, the right to object to or restrict certain processing, the right to withdraw consent, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact privacy@mehrab-alquran.com and we will delete it promptly. Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise their child's use of the Service through standard parental controls on the device.
Website Cookies
On our website (mehrab-alquran.com) we set a NEXT_LOCALE cookie to remember your language preference and an HttpOnly authentication cookie when you sign in. If a third-party analytics provider is enabled for the page, it sets its own cookies under its own privacy policy. Embedded third-party videos run in privacy-enhanced no-cookie mode and only set cookies after you press play. We do not set any other tracking or advertising cookies of our own. You can clear or block cookies through your browser settings.
