Everything you need to know about

Mehrab Quran

A complete guide to the Mehrab Quran app, from creating your account and booking teachers to recitation calls, group halaqat, and tajweed lessons.

Getting Started

Mehrab Quran is an app founded by Sheikh Hosni Mahmoud Mohamed Dawla, holder of an Ijazah in the Ten Qiraʾat and teacher of more than 25,000 students. Here is what you need to know before your first lesson.

Is Mehrab Quran really free?

Mehrab offers free lessons with qualified teachers, and the mushaf, continuous recitations and prayer times are available to everyone at no cost. Paid options are also available for students who want more teacher time.

How do I get started for the first time?

Download the app from the store, watch the short six-screen welcome tour, then tap Start the journey to go to login. You can also browse the Quran straight away from the Open Quran button on the login screen, even before signing up.

Who founded Mehrab Quran?

The founder is Sheikh Hosni Mahmoud Mohamed Dawla, holder of an Ijazah in the Ten Qiraʾat, who has personally taught over 25,000 students from many countries. Mehrab Quran is an extension of his lifelong mission to teach the Quran for free.

What does the app actually offer me?

It connects you to verified teachers via live audio calls, both one-on-one and group, plus an electronic mushaf, continuous Quran recitations, prayer times for your location, and recordings of your past sessions. All of this is offered for free.

How do I rewatch the introductory tour?

Open the More tab from the bottom bar and tap App tour. The same six welcome screens that played on first launch will appear again, and you can skip or close them whenever you like.

What learning paths are available?

The app supports several paths including recitation, tajweed, memorization, and the Ijazah path. You pick a path once after completing your profile and can change it later from the Edit profile screen.

Is the app available in English and Arabic only?

Yes, the interface currently supports Arabic and English. You can switch languages from the More tab and then Language, and every screen of the app updates instantly to your choice.

Why does the app keep asking me to set my clock correctly?

The app relies on your device clock for login sessions and call management. If the clock is out of sync you may see warnings or have features fail, so please enable automatic time in your phone settings.

Account & Password

You can register with email, or in one tap via Google, Apple, Telegram, or WhatsApp. This section answers the common questions about signup, phone verification, password change, and editing your profile.

How do I create a new account?

Open the login screen and tap the Register link. Fill in your name, email, and password, choose your gender, and accept the privacy terms. You can also sign up in one tap via Google, Apple, Telegram, or WhatsApp.

Why is choosing a gender required at signup?

Because the app applies automatic gender pairing: female students see only female teachers, and male students see only male teachers. The signup cannot complete until gender is selected.

How do I verify my phone number via WhatsApp or Telegram?

Open the More tab and tap the Verify phone chip. Choose WhatsApp or Telegram, tap Open app, send the word VERIFY to the official bot from your personal account, then return to Mehrab Quran and wait for the auto-verification.

Does Mehrab Quran send verification codes by SMS?

No. The app never uses SMS. Verification works by sending a message from your own WhatsApp or Telegram account to the official bot, which is more secure and does not rely on your mobile carrier.

How do I change my password?

Open the More tab and tap Change password. Enter your current password, then your new password twice, and tap Save. If you forgot the current one, use the Forgot password link at the top of the screen.

I forgot my password, what do I do?

On the login screen tap Forgot password. You can request a reset link to your email, or use the WhatsApp or Telegram path if you originally signed up that way or do not remember your email.

How do I change my email address?

Open the More tab and tap Change email. Enter the new email in a valid format and tap the change button. You may receive a confirmation link at the new address to activate it.

How do I edit my photo or profile details?

Open the More tab and tap Edit profile. Tap your profile picture to upload a new one, change any field (name, nationality, country of residence, learning path), then tap Save in the corner.

My email ends with .local, why are no emails arriving?

That happens when you originally signed up via Telegram or WhatsApp, so the app set a placeholder email. To recover the password, use the Telegram or WhatsApp path. To receive real email, open More then Change email and set a real address.

Teachers & Reviews

Every teacher on Mehrab Quran is hand-picked and experienced in recitation, tajweed, and memorization, with many holding a chained Ijazah. Here you will learn how to find a teacher, read reviews, and check availability before calling.

Where do I find the list of teachers?

Tap the Teachers tab in the bottom bar. You will see cards for each teacher with photo, name, star rating, and current availability dot. The list is updated in real time.

How do I search for a teacher by name?

A search bar sits at the top of the Teachers screen. Type any part of the name and results filter instantly. You can also pull down on the list to refresh it completely.

How do I book a female teacher?

If you are a female student, all teachers shown to you are already female due to automatic gender pairing. Just tap any teacher and start the call. The same applies in reverse for male students.

What do the green or gray dots next to a teacher mean?

Green means the teacher is currently available for calls, gray means unavailable, and orange means busy in another call. The Call button is only active when the teacher is available.

How do I open a teacher profile to see their specialty?

Tap a teacher card from the list. The profile page shows a bio, specialty, experience, Ijazah status, certifications, reviews, and the learning paths they teach. From the same page you can call them or add to favorites.

How do I read student reviews for a teacher?

Open the teacher profile and tap the reviews icon. A list of review cards appears with the student name, star count, comment text, and a relative timestamp.

Why do some teachers not show a star rating?

Ratings only appear if the teacher has more than one review and an average of 4 stars or higher. This keeps the rating fair and avoids showing numbers that do not represent the teacher reliably.

How do I share a teacher profile with a friend?

Open the teacher profile and tap the Share button at the top. Your phone share sheet opens so you can send the link via WhatsApp, Telegram, or any other app.

One-on-One Calls

A one-on-one call between you and a teacher is the core learning experience in Mehrab Quran. This section explains how to start, control mic and speaker, and rate the session afterwards.

How do I start a call with a teacher?

From the Teachers screen or the teacher profile, tap the Call button. The teacher gets a ringing call, and once they accept, the call screen opens automatically. The teacher must be marked available for the Call button to be active.

How do I mute my mic during a call?

Tap the microphone icon on the bottom button bar of the call screen. The icon changes state to indicate you are muted, and the teacher will not hear you until you tap again to unmute.

How do I switch to the loudspeaker or earpiece?

Tap the speaker icon on the call screen to toggle audio output between earpiece and loudspeaker. On modern devices you can also pick a connected Bluetooth headset.

Can I open the mushaf during a live call?

Yes. Tap the Quran icon on the call screen and the mushaf opens inside the call without ending it. The teacher is notified that you opened the mushaf, and you can flip pages normally while talking.

What happens if I press the back button during a call?

You will not leave the call. Instead you go back to the Home screen with the call still active in the background. You can return to the call screen via the top notification bar or the notification panel.

How do I end the call?

Tap the big red button in the middle of the bottom button bar. The call ends instantly and you are taken to the rate session screen automatically.

Do I have to rate the teacher after every call?

Yes for students. You cannot leave the rate screen without choosing a star count and selecting reasons. Written comments are optional. Your rating helps us maintain quality and improve the experience for other students.

Why does a Join audio button appear again during a call?

This happens if the app failed to publish your microphone, perhaps because another app is using it or the permission was denied. Tap Join audio to retry publishing your voice into the call.

Group Calls

Group calls let several students join one room with a teacher, which is great for memorization review, tajweed circles, and tafsir lessons. This section explains how to join and participate effectively.

How do I see active group rooms right now?

Open the Home tab and look for the Active group calls section that lists live rooms. Or open the Teachers tab and go to the group calls list to see all rooms with full details.

How do I join a group call?

Tap the Join button on the room card. The room screen opens with your microphone muted by default. Tap the microphone icon to unmute when you want to speak.

Why is the Join button disabled on some rooms?

The button is disabled when the room is full or when the moderator has temporarily locked joining. Wait a moment and tap refresh, since someone may leave or the moderator may reopen joining.

Can I turn on video in a group room?

Yes. Tap the video icon on the bottom button bar to start your camera. A switch camera button also appears once video is on so you can flip between front and back cameras.

How do I share my screen with the group?

Tap the More button on the room screen and choose Share screen. Your phone asks for a temporary permission, and once you accept, everyone sees your screen until you tap Stop sharing.

Can the teacher lock the room to keep distractions out?

Yes, only the teacher or the room creator can lock or unlock new joins from the More menu. This is useful when the lesson starts seriously and you want no further interruptions.

What happens if my internet drops briefly?

The app tries to reconnect automatically for 30 seconds. If your connection comes back in time, you rejoin with the same mic state and settings, otherwise you are removed and can rejoin manually.

How do I send a chat message in the room?

Tap the More button and choose Chat. A panel opens for typing text messages addressed to everyone in the room, and messages float briefly on the room screen for all participants.

Past Sessions

Every call you make is saved in your sessions history with details like surah and ayat. This section explains how to browse this history, filter by status, and edit details (for teachers).

Where do I find a record of my past calls?

Tap the Sessions tab in the bottom bar. You will see a list of all your sessions grouped by date, with sticky date headers that stay visible while you scroll.

How do I search for a specific session?

Use the search bar at the top of the Sessions screen to search by teacher or student name. You can also apply the status filter to show only completed, missed, or short sessions, depending on what you need.

What do the different session statuses mean?

A session can be Completed, Missed (no answer), Rejected, Failed (technical issue), or Too short. Each status has a distinctly colored badge so you can tell them apart at a glance.

How do I view details of a specific session?

Tap a session card in the list to open its details page, which shows the surah, ayat range, mistakes the teacher noted, and any comment. On tablets the details appear in a side panel.

How do I edit session details as a teacher?

Open the Sessions tab, tap the card, then tap Edit session details. An editable form lets you change surah, ayat, mistakes, and add new entries (up to 10 entries per session).

Why can I not edit some old sessions?

Editing is available to teachers within a limited time window. Very old sessions may be locked automatically to keep reports accurate. Contact support if you need a critical correction.

How do I turn off recording for my future sessions as a teacher?

Open the Sessions screen and tap the Recording consent action at the top. You can toggle whether your future sessions are recorded with one tap. Past sessions are not affected by this change.

Recordings

The app saves an audio recording of each call (subject to the teacher consent setting), so you can review your recitation or memorization later. This section explains how to access and play recordings.

Where do I find recordings of my past sessions?

Open the Sessions tab and tap a session card to find a link to the recording, when available. You can also open the full Recordings screen from the settings menu.

Are all calls recorded automatically?

No. Recording is subject to the teacher consent setting. If a teacher disables recording from the Sessions tab, their new sessions will not be recorded and a No recording badge appears on the session.

How do I play back a recording?

Tap a recording card on the Recordings screen to open the playback screen, which shows the teacher and student photos and an animated audio waveform. Use the play button and the 10-second skip buttons to navigate.

How do I jump quickly inside a long recording?

Drag the progress bar at the bottom to the position you want, or use the back 10 and forward 10 buttons next to the play button. The bar responds immediately without re-buffering each time.

Why do I see a Failed to load message on playback?

Most often it is a weak internet connection or a brief server hiccup. Tap retry, and if the error persists, open the Recordings tab and pull down to refresh the list before trying again.

Can I download a recording to my device?

The app currently supports in-app playback only and does not offer a direct file download. This feature is on the roadmap. If you need a specific copy urgently, contact support.

Can third parties access my recordings?

No. Your recordings are private to you and your teacher and are stored on Mehrab servers securely. We do not share them with any third party, and you can delete your account anytime to remove all your data from our system.

Favorites

Favorites help you reach trusted teachers fast, or for teachers, follow your students. This section explains how to add and remove favorites and how to use them day to day.

How do I add a teacher to my favorites?

On the Teachers screen or on a teacher profile, tap the heart icon. The heart turns red to indicate the teacher is added, and you can remove them anytime by tapping again.

Where do I find my favorite teachers?

Open the Home screen and find the Favorites quick-access card. The list shows all teachers you favorited with the same card design as the Teachers screen, including the same availability indicators.

Why do not I see the heart icon on my account?

The heart icon shows for students only. If you are a teacher, you will see the Favorite students list instead, which helps you keep track of regular students quickly.

How do I reach my favorite students list as a teacher?

Open the Home screen and tap the Students or Favorites card. Simple cards appear for each student you favorited, with their photo, name, and nationality. Tap a card to open their profile and your session history with them.

Will I be notified when a favorite teacher becomes available?

Yes. When one of your favorite teachers turns availability on, the app sends you a real-time notification. Make sure notifications are enabled for the app in your phone settings so you do not miss it.

Will the teacher know I favorited them?

The favorite action is not directly visible to teachers, although a teacher can see students they previously talked to in their Students list. Adding a favorite does not create any visible relationship to anyone but you.

How do I remove a teacher from favorites?

Open the teacher profile or their card on the Teachers screen and tap the red heart icon. It will turn empty and the teacher is removed from your favorites list immediately.

Quran & Continuous Recitations

The app contains a complete electronic mushaf (604 pages) and continuous Quran recitations around the clock. Both are fully free and accessible even without signing in. This section explains how to make the most of them.

How do I open the mushaf inside the app?

Tap the Quran card on the Home screen, or tap Open Quran on the login screen even before signing in. The mushaf opens at the last page you read, or at Surat al-Fatihah if it is your first time.

Can I read the mushaf offline?

Mushaf pages are loaded gradually and cached on your device, so once you have visited them you can read them on a weak connection. Audio recitation playback still requires internet.

How do I jump to a specific surah?

Inside the mushaf reader, tap the index icon at the top to open the surah index, with tabs for juzʾ, hizb, and Go to page. Pick what you want and you jump straight to that location.

How do I search the Quran by words?

Open the surah index and tap the search icon at the top. Type at least two characters from an ayah and results group by surah. Tap any result to open the page where it appears.

Does the app remember my last page?

Yes. The app saves the last page you opened automatically. When you return to the mushaf reader later, it opens at the same page so you can resume reading without effort.

How do I listen to the Mehrab continuous recitations?

Open the Recitations card on the Home screen. Tap the big play button to start listening. Surah and reciter details show in loop mode, and a red Live badge appears during a live recitation session.

How do I join a live recitation with my voice?

When a live recitation accepts join requests, a Request to join button appears. Tap it and wait for the host to accept. Once accepted, use the microphone toggle and the Leave button to control your participation.

Why does the screen stay always-on inside the mushaf?

The mushaf reader keeps the screen on because reading and memorization sessions need uninterrupted focus. When you exit the mushaf, your phone returns to its default power saving behavior.

Prayer Times

The app shows the five daily prayers plus sunrise time, with togglable reminders per prayer and several calculation methods endorsed by trusted Islamic authorities.

How do I set up prayer times for the first time?

Open the More tab and tap Prayer times. The app asks for location permission so it can compute coordinates accurately. Tap Use my location to allow, and the times for today appear immediately.

Which prayers does the screen show?

The five daily prayers (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) plus sunrise as an informational time. The next prayer is highlighted with a distinct color so you can spot it instantly.

How do I enable an adhan reminder for each prayer?

Each prayer in the list has a bell button next to it. Tap the bell to toggle the reminder for that prayer independently of the others. Reminders require system notification permission to be enabled.

How do I change the calculation method?

Tap Calculation method at the bottom of the prayer times screen. A list of trusted methods appears, including Egyptian, Muslim World League, ISNA, Karachi, Umm al-Qura, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Singapore, Tehran, and Turkey.

Why are my times slightly different from the local masjid?

Small differences are normal and stem from differences in calculation methods and Fajr angles between authorities. Switch the calculation method to match your local masjid and the times will line up much closer.

Do prayer times work without location access?

Location is necessary for accurate prayer times. If you decline the location permission, the screen cannot show times. Enable the permission from system settings then return to the screen, and times update automatically.

Why is sunrise listed with the prayers?

Sunrise is not a prayer, but it is included as an informational time because it marks the end of Fajr time. The screen lists it alongside other times so you can know it without opening another app.

Notifications & Devices

Notifications come in when your favorite teachers become available, when calls arrive, and when support replies. This section helps you make sure they reach you and manage your registered devices.

Why are my notifications not coming through?

Open the More tab and tap Notification troubleshooting. The screen lists required permissions, and any missing permission has a Fix button next to it that asks the system for it directly.

How do I fix notifications on Xiaomi or Huawei phones?

These phones often need extra settings such as Auto-start and Background activity. The notification troubleshooting screen guides you step by step to enable these from your phone system settings.

Where do I see my list of notifications?

Open the More tab and tap Notifications. A full list of all received notifications appears with icon, title, relative time, message text, and a clear unread badge for new ones.

How do I mark all notifications as read?

There is a Mark all as read button at the top of the Notifications screen. Tap it once and all unread notifications turn read in a single batch. The action does not delete any notification.

How do I see the devices where I am signed in?

Open the More tab and tap Active sessions. A list of every active login session shows the device type, version, approximate location, and last activity. The current device has a Current badge.

How do I sign out of a lost device?

Open the Active sessions screen, find the lost device card, and tap the trash icon next to it. That session is revoked immediately and the device must sign in again to access the account.

How do I mute notifications on a specific device only?

On the Active sessions screen, every device card has a bell button. Tap the bell to enable or disable notifications for that device alone, without affecting other devices or signing out from it.

How do I sign out from all devices at once?

At the top of the Active sessions screen there is a Sign out everywhere button. Tap it and confirm to revoke every active session instantly. You will need to sign in again on each device you want to use.

Support & Deleting Account

The support team is available via WhatsApp and email. This section tells you how to reach us quickly and what happens if you ask to delete your account permanently.

How do I contact Mehrab Quran support?

Open the More tab and tap Contact us. You will find the support WhatsApp button on +905308187582 and the support email support@mehrab-alquran.com. We typically reply within a few business hours.

What is the official WhatsApp support number?

The official WhatsApp number is +905308187582. You can message us on it directly from any WhatsApp app to ask anything or report an issue. We answer within working hours, by Allah's permission.

What is the support email?

The official support email is support@mehrab-alquran.com. Send your issue with a screenshot if possible and we will reply as soon as we can. For urgent matters, prefer WhatsApp because it is faster.

Can I report a teacher or inappropriate behavior?

Yes. Message the support team on WhatsApp or email with the details of your report and the session ID if available. Every report is reviewed in confidence, and we are committed to teacher integrity on the platform.

How do I permanently delete my account?

Open the More tab, then Contact us, and scroll to the bottom. Tap Delete account, read the warnings carefully, then type the requested confirmation word. The deletion is final and cannot be undone.

Can I restore my account after deletion?

No. Deletion is final and removes your data, sessions, and recordings from our servers irreversibly. If you are unsure, simply sign out instead of deleting, or contact support to update any data that bothers you.

Is there a way to deactivate the account instead of deleting it?

Currently the only available option is full deletion. As an alternative, you can sign out of all devices from the Active sessions screen, or mute notifications on every device, so the account becomes silent without being deleted.

Can I help develop or translate the app?

Yes, with pleasure. Reach out to support on WhatsApp +905308187582 and tell us how you would like to contribute (teaching, reviewing, translating, developing, or sharing ideas), and we will get back to you quickly.
